The Boy in the Dark
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
So recently I made the switch from Film Maker to Game Dev, Well I have been entering game jams for years, but what I really mean is I concentrate more on games than films these days.
Mainly focussing on FMV games converting some of my old films and unused footage into games and interactive experiences, A while back I looked through lots of my old content and found some footage I shot with my nephew 4 years ago I played around with a few screens got an idea of what could be done with it and stuck it on the idea pile. Then a few weeks later I find the Unexpected Jam and it sounds like the perfect idea for it. As I hadn’t properly started the game I reached out and confirmed I was eligible and I got ready to start the 29th of August however I have a 1 year old son and a full time job , My son wouldn’t sleep at night and my job gave me more hours than usual so over the 2 week period of the jam I really struggled to work on the game other than getting a few clips ready I had nothing done until the night before the Jam ended when I finally sat down and assembled this little Horror Fmv game in a matter of hours. It’s a bit sloppy its short but its fun tense and has potential.
Guide this little Boy through his Nightmare in the Dark and reveal the Shocking ending to the Story. There are a few paths through the game and some hidden scenes,
It relies heavily on Trial& Error the memorising the choices. Hit me up on Twitter if you get so frustrated you want the solution @NickFMVdev i do highly recommend you explore as i have hidden some Unexpected Scenes and Occurrences into the game.
Ignore the settings Cog in bottom right corner that was put there from the engine and i didn't have time to do anything with.
I am currently working on some Bigger FMV projects but I would like to revisit and expand on this one and make it less sloppy + I have loads more footage for it.
To play just use mouse and click.
Splash screen can be skipped with a click
I am aware the Game over screen goes on a little too long I will fix that

Hey, great to meet another filmmaker moving into the game dev scene via FMV's and interactive films. Definitely going to follow you as this is a growing community and it's always great to see what other filmmakers are upto. Can't wait to check this out looks great.

I really liked the concept and the FMV because it is something that really isn't done very often. I did find the game a bit simplistic in its current form, but I would love to see a more complex version or other FMV games.
Thanks I'll give the video a watch, this was a very simple project i threw together in 3 hours for a Jam, I have been overwhelmed by the response from it, I really thought it was a pretty sloppy attempt but i am so pleased that people dig the aesthetic and the concept. So thanks again for your comment and playing the game. I was a film maker for close to 15 years and have a lot of content i am turning into FMV games some simple interactive movies and others more complex more akin to the 90s style of FMV games but i have lots to come so please keep an eye on my page for more details very soon.
